When Your Ego Gets Loud… Remember Who You Are

You know that voice…

The one that whispers, “You can’t do that.”

“You’re not good enough.”

“You’re too much… or not enough.”

That voice.

But have you ever stopped and asked yourself…Who is that, really?

I’ll tell you.

That voice is your ego.

And here’s the thing—your ego isn’t trying to hurt you. It actually believes it’s protecting you. It gathers up all your insecurities, all your past experiences, and tries to keep you “safe” by making you second guess yourself… by keeping you small.

But your ego… is not your truth.

It is not your essence.

And while we do need our ego—it plays a role—we also need to remember who we really are.

Why we’re here.

And how lucky we are to experience this life on this beautiful Earth.

Let me share a little story with you…

I’ve done a lot of work over the past few years to stop worrying about what other people think of me. I’ve really tried to live authentically—even when that meant not everyone would resonate with me anymore.

And for the most part… I’ve been doing pretty well.

But recently, I received some unsolicited advice.

And just like that… I fell right into the trap.

I went down a full-on rabbit hole of doubt. Questioning myself. Overthinking everything.

And then I paused.

And I asked myself…

What would I tell my podcast listeners right now?

What would I have told my clients back when I was courage coaching?

And I knew the answer immediately.

I would say: Don’t listen to that mental chatter.

Some people call it:

🙉 “monkey mind.”

🙊"monkey chatter"

🗣️ "mental talk"

🐩"barking dog"

Well, I call it my ego.

And—this might sound funny—but I’ve actually named her… Kena.

My true self? I’ve named her Opal.

And in that moment, I knew… I needed to stop listening to Kena—the fearful voice—and start listening to Opal.

Because Opal is grounded.

Opal is love.

Opal is truth.

Opal doesn’t worry about being liked by everyone.

She just shows up… authentically.

So I reminded myself:

If I’m not someone’s cup of tea… that’s okay.

I’m not here to be everything to everyone.

I’m here to be me.

To live authentically.

To lead with love.

To trust myself.

So here’s what I want to leave you with today…

Honour your ego—it’s part of you.

But don’t let it lead you.

Instead…

Come back to your truth.

Come back to your essence.

Come back to you.

Because that’s where your power is.

Always has been. 💛

The mind can get overwhelmed with so many opinions - remember to tap into the true you!

Much Love,

Kena🌻
